Individual Coaching - content preview
Here’s what we cover in the individual Non-Executive Director or Trustees coaching course, and what participants say about the course.
Corporate Governance
Focus - You’ll gain a practical understanding of corporate governance (UK, plus Europe, US and Asia as required), the role of a Non-Executive or Trustee and importantly how it differs from an Executive role.
Outcome - You will highlight your governance-related experience on your CV and in your interview answers. You’ll have a good understanding of the foundations of good governance and importantly be able to assess the quality of an organization’s governance in considering whether you would apply for a Non-Executive or Trustee role.
Why you want to be a Non-Executive or Trustee and the core qualities you will bring
Focus - Your values as a Non-Executive or Trustee are at the heart of your application. It’s not just ‘what you’ve done’, but ‘who you are’ as a person that is key to a successful appointment toa Non-Executive or Trustee role. We’ll focus on how your values influence how you act as a Board member, and how your values align with the organization’s.
Outcome - This will enable you to answer core motivational and behavioural questions in your application and interview and anticipate and plan your performance in the Boardroom.
Your Positive And Limiting Beliefs
Focus - Self-beliefs shape your Non-Executive or Trustee career ambition, steer your confidence in applying for roles, impact your performance in an interview and your behaviour in a role. We’ll explore your positive and limiting self-beliefs(such as imposter syndrome or comparing your self to others),how these can impact you and how to manage them.
Outcome - You will understand your enabling and limiting beliefs plus how to handle these beliefs so that you can anticipate and proactively manage how you respond and perform.
The Interview Process
Focus - We will focus on the various recruitment formats, building rapport with the recruiter, understanding what the organization is really looking for and preparing powerful interview answers. Importantly we’ll also look at what you should be asking in your assessment of the role. We’ll do mock interviews and introduce you to specialist recruiters.
Outcome - You’ll be prepared for the selection process, be ready to impress at the interview, and will know the questions you should ask.
Career Plan, Impactful Networking, Mentors and Models
Focus - We will look at your career plan and board succession, optimizing your network to find the right roles, and identifying models and mentors you can rely on.
Planning your career is key: the interview panel will be considering you for the advertised role plus future opportunities as a Sub-Committee member or Chair, or a Senior Independent Director. Knowing this, you can tailor your answers and share your board career plan.
We’ll also cover what you should expect as a new board member (accepting an offer, onboarding),building key relationships, planning your first-year milestones, and how to handle your appraisal.
Outcome - You’ll know what to expect in your first year and have a Board-level career plan that will increase your value and appeal to the organization. Plus, you’ll intentionally be using your network to find the right roles for you
